EENA2025: Discussion with Hamza and Waad al-Kateab & draft programme is out!

The 2025 EENA Conference will begin with an inspiring discussion with Dr Hamza al-Kateab, co-founder of the human rights campaign Action For Sama, and Waad al-Kateab, journalist and filmmaker.

Dr Hamza al-Kateab is celebrated for his extraordinary leadership at Al-Quds Hospital in eastern Aleppo during the Battle of Aleppo, where he maintained critical healthcare services under relentless airstrikes. After the hospital’s destruction in 2016, he led its reconstruction and has continued supporting healthcare initiatives in Syria through NGOs. His wife, Waad al-Kateab, reported on the Syrian war as a citizen journalist, documenting her life during the conflict and transforming her powerful footage into For Sama, the internationally acclaimed, award-winning documentary. Since leaving Aleppo, they founded Action For Sama and have worked to advocate for human rights, justice, and awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria. Together, they will share their inspiring story of resilience and hope.

As part of the conference, we will also host a special screening of For Sama, directed by Waad al-Kateab, offering a deeply moving account of their experiences during the war in Aleppo.

Over the two-and-a-half-day conference, we will also explore key topics in emergency communications, including:

  • Public warning systems
  • Next-Generation eCall implementation
  • Meeting EU legislation requirements
  • AI applications
  • NG112 standards
  • Operational challenges in PSAPs
